Woody Extra Herbicide

Woody Extra Herbicide, made from Aminopyralid, Picloram & Triclopyr, controls various environmental and noxious woody and herbaceous weeds. These three ingredients provide excellent broad-spectrum control of even the most difficult-to-kill weeds with extended residual activity.

The combination of Triclopyr, Picloram and Aminopyralid creates a synergistic effect, where the overall effectiveness of the herbicide is enhanced compared to using each herbicide alone. This synergy allows for improved control of tough, resilient woody plants.

Active Ingredients: Aminopyralid @ 8g/L, Picloram @ 100g/L & Triclopyr @ 300g/L

Similar or comparable to Grazon Extra Herbicide (Corteva) & Hatchet Extra Herbicide (Conquest)

Why choose Woody Extra Herbicide;

Woody Extra Herbicide contains 3 powerful active ingredients. Triclopyr, Picloram, and Aminopyralid are all effective herbicides that can be used to control a wide variety of woody weeds. Combined, they provide excellent control of even the most difficult-to-kill weeds.

  • Broad Spectrum Control: Triclopyr, picloram, and aminopyralid are all broad-spectrum herbicides, which are effective against a wide range of weed species, including many woody weeds. This combination ensures that the herbicide can target and control various types of woody vegetation.
  • Synergistic Effects: The combination of these three herbicides can create a synergistic effect, where the overall effectiveness of the herbicide is enhanced compared to using each herbicide alone. This synergy allows for improved control of tough, resilient woody plants.
  • Multiple Modes of Action: Triclopyr, picloram, and aminopyralid have different modes of action, affecting plants differently. This multiple-mode-of-action approach helps combat resistance in weed populations. By targeting different biochemical pathways and physiological processes in the plants, it becomes more difficult for weeds to develop resistance to all three herbicides simultaneously.
  • Extended Residual Activity: Triclopyr, picloram, and aminopyralid often have long-lasting residual activity in the soil. This means that even after application, the herbicides remain active in the soil for an extended period, providing ongoing control and preventing the reestablishment of woody weeds. This characteristic is particularly useful for controlling perennial woody plants with deep root systems that can resprout.
  • Selectivity: While triclopyr, picloram, and aminopyralid are potent herbicides, they also have a degree of selectivity, meaning they can selectively target and control woody plants without causing significant harm to desirable grasses in the area. This selectivity allows for more targeted weed control in areas where woody vegetation needs to be managed without damaging other desirable plants.

Questions and answers from customers

How long before or after mowing can you use Woody Extra Herbicide?

  1. Q How long before or after mowing can you use Woody Extra Herbicide?
Asked by Jill venn on November 24, 2024 12:17 pm
    Answered by the admin

Woody Extra Herbicide should never be used in domestic turf or garden situations. If the question refers to slashing in pasture situations, then slashing should not occur after application until the weeds sprayed have died completely. For some species, this may take 6-12 months. If slashing is planned before spraying, you should wait sufficient time for the weeds to regenerate, providing adequate new foliage that can be sprayed.

  3. Q If I spray Elm tree suckers with Woody Extra Herbicide will it affect the parent tree?
Asked by Rod on November 1, 2024 9:36 am
    Answered by the admin

As Woody Extra Herbicide's active ingredients have multiple modes of action, targeting different biochemical pathways and physiological processes in the plants, and a long residual life span in soil, it certainly could affect the parent tree when spraying suckers and would not be recommended. Only contact herbicides applied very carefully are recommended for killing suckers.

The original Woody Herbicide is not registered or recommended for controlling Paterson's Curse, whereas the Woody Extra Herbicide is. When applied as directed, Woody Herbicide and Woody Extra Herbicide will not target or damage grasses. However, if they are overapplied, damage to grasses is likely.

Woody Extra Herbicide is an excellent herbicide to target many woody weed species. As it is used as a foliar spray, it will need to be applied to the foliage of the plant that is actively growing (i.e. new leaf regrowth). Please be aware that many other plants in the garden are likely broadleaf species that Woody Extra will also kill if accidentally sprayed. Whether it is effective will depend on the species of woody weed you are trying to control. We recommend including a good wetting agent (i.e. Wetter 1000) or penetrant (i.e. Consume) for best results. Do not use detergent or washing up liquid; this will likely do more damage than good.

  8. If I use Woody Extra Herbicide in a paddock will it kill the grass?

  9. Q If I use Woody Extra Herbicide in a paddock will it kill the grass?
Asked by Mark on October 2, 2023 8:04 pm
    Answered by the admin

Woody Extra Herbicide is a selective herbicide that only targets certain broadleaf species.  It should not kill the grass if it is applied at the correct rates.  If the chemical is being used by high-volume hand spraying, the volume of the chemical will most likely be applied higher than recommended.  The result is usually brown or dying grass due to phytotoxicity (over-application).

  10. What is the most effective wetting agent to use with Woody Extra Herbicide?

  11. Q What is the most effective wetting agent to use with Woody Extra Herbicide?

When using Woody Extra Herbicide, to guarantee the best kill, we recommend adding an organosilicone penetrant to maximise your results.  Penetrants are a premium wetting agent, spreading agent, penetrating surfactant and anti-evaporant all in one and are recommended in spray mixes for hard-to-kill, noxious & woody weeds.  Consume Penetrant is recommended to be added to Woody Extra Herbicide to control weeds with hard to wet, waxy or hairy leaves/foliage & in challenging hot, dry or wet application conditions.

Tips For Use

Restraints:

  • Do not apply to weeds that may be stressed (not actively growing) due to prolonged periods of extreme cold, moisture stress (water-logged or drought-affected), poor nutrition, presence of disease, damage or previous herbicide treatment, as reduced levels of control may result.
  • Do not spray if rain is likely within 1 hour or if the foliage is wet from rain or dew.
  • Do not burn off, cut or clear blackberry or other woody weeds for at least 6 months after spraying.
  • In areas prone to flooding, treatment should commence after any annual flooding, as such areas flooded within 9 months following application may have reduced results.

Spray Drift Restraints:

  • Specific definitions for terms used in this section of the label can be found at apvma.gov.au/spraydrift
  • Do not allow bystanders to come into contact with the spray cloud.
  • Do not apply in a manner that may cause an unacceptable impact on native vegetation, agricultural crops, landscaped gardens and aquaculture production or cause contamination of plant or livestock commodities outside the application site from spray drift. Wherever possible, correctly use application equipment designed to reduce spray drift and apply when the wind direction is away from these sensitive areas.
  • Do not apply unless the wind speed is between 3 and 20 kilometres per hour at the application site during the time of application (or a maximum 15 kilometres per hour for aerial application).
  • Do not apply if there are hazardous surface temperature inversion conditions present at the application site during the time of application. Surface temperature inversion conditions exist most evenings one to two hours before sunset and persist until one to two hours after sunrise.

Other Limitations:

  • In Tasmania for blackberries do not treat bushes carrying mature or near mature fruit. For native vegetation, the use of Apparent Woody Extra Herbicide on native vegetation must be done in accordance with State and/or Local legislation.

Protection Of Livestock:

  • Poisonous plants may become more palatable after spraying, and stock should be kept away from these plants until they have died down.
  • Many plants remain poisonous after death, and stock should not be allowed access, as there is a likelihood that they may graze the dead material. Such material should be burnt if possible.

Protection Of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans And the Environment:

  • Do not contaminate streams, rivers or watercourses with the chemical or used containers.

Protection Of Crops, Native And Other Non-Target Plants:

  • Crops susceptible to Apparent Woody Extra Herbicide include but are not limited to peas, lupins, lucerne, navy beans, peanuts, soybeans and other legumes, cotton, flowers, fruit, hops, ornamentals, shade trees and Pinus spp., potatoes, safflower, sugar beet, sunflowers, tobacco, tomatoes, vegetables and vines.
  • Apparent Woody Extra Herbicide is damaging to susceptible crops during both growing and dormant periods. Grasses are normally unaffected and establish quickly after treatment.
  • Picloram and aminopyralid, two of the active constituents in this product, can remain active in the soil for extended periods depending on soil type and application rate, rainfall, temperature, humidity, soil moisture and soil organic matter.
  • Do not apply under weather conditions or from spraying equipment that may cause spray to drift onto nearby susceptible plants/crops, cropping lands, pastures, waterways or native vegetation.
  • Do not allow physical spray drift onto waterways, native vegetation and susceptible crops.
  • Do not apply close to or in areas containing roots of desirable vegetation, where the treated soil may be washed onto areas growing (or areas to be planted with) desirable plants.
  • Do not apply on sites where surface water from heavy rain can be expected to run off to areas containing or to be planted with susceptible crops or plants.
  • Do not move soil, which may have been treated, to areas where desirable plants will be grown.

Management Of Residues In Compost, Mulches And Animal Waste.

  • Do not cut pasture for hay or silage production within 6 months of application, where it is intended for use off-farm.
  • Do not use treated plant material to make compost, mulches or mushroom substrate.
  • Do not send straw from treated pastures off-farm for these purposes or for animal bedding.
  • Do not send animal manure, dairy shed and feed pad effluent that has been collected from animals grazing or fed pastures treated within the previous 6 months off-farm.
  • Spreading/irrigating this manure/effluent may cause damage to clover and other susceptible plants.
  • Do not send compost made from animal waste that has been collected from animals grazing or fed pastures treated within the previous 6 months off-farm. Such compost may cause damage to clover and other susceptible plants.
  • Do not apply animal waste (e.g. manure, slurry) collected from animals grazing or fed pastures treated within the previous 6 months to susceptible plants or land to be used to grow susceptible plants.
  • Do not grow susceptible plants within the relevant plant back period in fields treated with manure/effluent from farms where animals have grazed or been fed treated pasture until a field bioassay shows there are no residues in the soil at levels injurious to the susceptible plants (see the Minimum Recropping Periods section). To promote herbicide decomposition, manure should be evenly incorporated into the surface soil. The breakdown of residues in decomposing plants or manure is more rapid under warm, moist soil conditions and may be enhanced by supplemental irrigation.

Storage:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.
  • Do not store near food, feedstuffs, fertilisers or seed.

Safety Directions:

  • It will irritate the eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
